Gimme some color

It’s the end of summer here in Seattle, and to tell you the truth I’m pretty bummed. This summer has been way too darn short, and not even that warm. So I’m going to preserve the last hurrah of summer with a super saturated bright and shiny collection of awesome. Here she blow:

Vixen print by Minkee

Glitter Deer Portrait by Magical Pony Farm

Eastern Arch by Spin Thread

Sofa and Log Collage Painting by mosie26

OMG I’m loving this collection!

Visual Inspiration: painted driftwood

This image really popped up out of the screen at me. The colors and patterns are stunning, in contrast to the weathered wood. Refreshing and summery!

Invites for Baby Jasmine’s Shower

My best friend in the whole wide world and her (then) boyfriend got preggo kind of unexpectedly last year. They had a shotgun wedding, an amazingly fun celebration afterwards and have been nesting like mo-fos since then. Bestie Jamie is almost ready to pop, and I have the honor of helping put together her baby shower!

Mapenvelop Tutorial

I spied these nifty Google Maps Envelopes while perusing the Craftzine.com blog and was smitten. Designer Beste Miray Dogan made up this  Mapenvelop, an envelope with a map of the place in which the letter originated, using Stephen’s template .

They’re cute, quirky and AWESOME to get in the mail. If you flip the idea around a bit, print out envelope liners with the location of your event and send them out with your invites, your envelope is doing double-duty. Plus, they just look super neat.

Lo & Behold on Etsy

Good news guys… I have officially re-opened my Etsy shop! I began the shop as an experiment, testing the waters of Etsy and trying to find my scope and direction. As I’ve been sewing and crafting more and more my focus has changed from custom vinyl graphics to vintage and thrifty finds and handmade home goods.

Decor-a-Boards from Pop Ink

Buckstop Pop Ink Decor-a-Board

I’m pretty super in love with these Decor-a-Boards from Pop Ink via French Paper. They’re kitschy, rustic and vintage pop art at the same time. They’re $28 plus shipping and are made out of recycled wood scraps and unused lumber. I’m exercising every ounce of control at this very moment, and NOT buying one immediately. I’ll eventually cave.. but today.. Today I will be strong!

I especially love the  Jesus, beaver, squirrel and horse ones!

Here’s just a bit of sunny 60s pop to pull you out of those winter doldrums…  some of my favorite singers are in this Gigi project!

Klaus Haapaniemi's art

Whew, was I blown away with Klaus Haapaniemi‘s art when I first saw it on Loobylu’s blog. Finnish born but living in London, Klaus has done work for Marimekko, which I ADORE, and a jillion other awesome places! His work is fantastic. I’m in love. His work speaks for itself.

Urban Craft Uprising and new friends

I attended my first Urban Craft Uprising in Seattle this weekend! My friend Kiki and I went towards the last half of the second day on Sunday. I had fears that everything would be sold out and the fair would be a ghost town, but the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall was actually teeming with people. We saw many great vendors, bought some gifts for others and a few little ones for ourselves (button rings via Greenbelts!).

shower art by Ugly Baby

I stopped by longtime favorite Rosalie Gale’s shower art Ugly Baby booth and was tempted to buy one of her pieces again, but resisted! They’re great for gifts, and we even kept one for ourselves which says “Love handles are soft and sexy”. It’s positive affirmation in the morning, let me tell ya.

I was also able to meet and hang out with Bread and Badger lovelies Amanda and Sean. Their etched glass pint glasses, stemware and other doodads are just swell and make great holiday gifts. I’ve personally bought a couple of items from them and they are top notch. They love beer, good home-cooked food and rad company so we got along fabulously!

Simplifying

new Etsy banner design

I tweaked my logo a bit, specifically my Etsy banner and avatar and my Twitter avatar. I was feeling like my original was a bit overdone and I want to distance myself from the “eye”, as it was a piece of clip art I threw in to spice things up. I should have taken my own advice: SIMPLE is the most effective.

You can still see the old logo here on WordPress. But DO check out the new one on my Etsy shop and on my Twitter page and let me know what you think!

ALSO! New creative ideas on the forefront: mobiles made out of reclaimed branches and handmade sewn doo-dads and cheery bunting flags!

New Beginnings, A New Neighborhood

My blogging has dropped off for a couple of reasons. I shut down my Etsy shop temporarily to concentrate on moving, and since this blog is directly related to the content of my Etsy shop it made sense to put a temporary kabosh on it.

And we moved, from the beautiful small suburban town of Issaquah to the bustling neighborhood of Columbia City, oft-referred to as the “ghetto” of Seattle. This supposed ghetto has a strong sense of community, a dog park within a 1/2 mile, a small little bar/restaurant strip, has kick-ass Ethiopian, Vietnamese and Mexican taco truck establishments and is a mere bus ride away from downtown.

Take that, Issaquah!

So my new ghetto = the most exciting and fun neighborhood I’ve ever lived in. Just when I get sick of the boxes and seemingly unfinished nature of our new house, I sneak a glance at things that make me happy. Things that are a sign to me that our style is finally emerging, our sense of home is finally settling.

Here are a few superb furniture finds we snagged off Craigslist.

Blog Find: Fences Unhinged

Fences came about out of necessity. Luckily, people these days have a sense of humor and have turned the boring (yet lovely) black wrought-in or white picket fence look into something a little more evocative of our individual selves.

DIYed, salvaged, homegrown, hand-sewn, organic, expensive or cheap… fences can be made in ALL shapes and sizes and out of all sorts of materials. I’m loving the inspiration in these photos.

As seen on CrookedBrains.net, where more examples of kooky fences can be found.

*I previously ogled a fantastic fence here and then saw a reproduction of it in front of a house on Lake Sammamish near my home!

Blog Find: Alexander Girard Bicycles

Oh my. I adore Alexander Girard’s designs. They’re playful and primary, without coming off as childish. That’s why I almost shrieked out loud when I spotted these gorgeous two-wheeled lovelies on Apartment Therapy.

These images find me dreaming of sunny yet cool days spent slowly peddling around town, browsing farmers’ markets and shops. Carefree.

Shop Spot(light): Three Potato Four

In my interwebz searching around I find the most amazing, cool things. Things I can’t wait to get for my home, things that make me feel good and take notice!

I want to share these things with you, so I’ve started a new tag/post that I will try to do semi-regularly called “Shop Spot(light)”. This is the first of the series, and I’m spotlighting Three Potato Four. Though not a bargain home decor store, these guys have such rad finds I couldn’t resist!

>> This fresh little number would be darling in a kid’s room of course, but also as a potholder hanger in a vintage kitchen or as a towel hanger in a bathroom. It would even be a great way to hang some key jewelry that you wear a lot.

Paper Punches Rule

Fun with paper punchesLately I’ve been buying some fabulous paper hang tags through Etsy sellers, one of which is Farouche (who makes fab tags… go buy some).

Yesterday I was feeling adventurous though, and after raffling through odd-shaped paper scraps and slightly bent cardstock leftovers I decided to make my own!

Alphabet Blocks on Steroids

Old, heavy behemoth wooden furniture is cool. I don’t care how many pieces I get at Ikea, the feeling of owning the furniture is just not the same.  As a newly married woman we don’t have a lot of income for expensive furniture pieces. And we definitely don’t have a baby.

(– both are instances in which I think it is appropriate to think about buying such a fine item such as this –>)

But if I did, you better bet your britches I’d be looking into this. This is just too charming, twenty six drawers from A to Z. At a whopping £2700 it better be made out of kryptonite and withstand a stampede of elephants.  Still, I long.

The Lorna House

I’ve always considered myself a 30s bungalow kind of girl, craving a  sweet front porch, built in bookshelves and fat crown moldings, and to a certain extent I am. But as my tastes have changed I find myself veering towards the more modern mid-century design, a style that I believe melds warmness and comfort with modern and clean design.
