EtsyRAIN Pre-Holiday Craft Show

I’m really super duper excited about this October, for several reasons.

1: HALLOWEEN! And that means crafty awesomeness all-around.
2. Football! My fantasy football team is teetering on the edge of a win today, so I’m hoping Monday Night Football will treat me right!
3. EtsyRAIN’s Pre-Holiday Craft Show at the Intiman Theatre!

This year I’m interning for the EtsyRAIN group, which I’m already a member of, helping them get the word out about the Pre-Holiday Craft Show. The show will feature only local EtsyRAIN members, and the chosen charity to support is DonorsChoose.org. Please check the link out. They’re a fab place doing great things in schools with kiddos.

I’m handling some of the PR, graphics and marketing leading up to the big event and it feels great to be involved! For all your EtsyRAINers out there, I’ll have a blog badge graphic ready for you to handy-dandily place on your blog so you can give the fest a shout out to all your readers!

New Creations!

I’ve mentioned it about a jillion times so far… but I FINALLY got to take some photos of some new items. My friend and aspiring burlesque performer, Kiara, graciously donated her body (and soul! bwahahahah….) for my crafting cause.

First up, Ahoy Anchor Necklace
I really love this pendant. It’s delicate, but sizeable, and I’m really enjoying the white color of it. Snazzy!

Gimme some color

It’s the end of summer here in Seattle, and to tell you the truth I’m pretty bummed. This summer has been way too darn short, and not even that warm. So I’m going to preserve the last hurrah of summer with a super saturated bright and shiny collection of awesome. Here she blow:

Color Wheel Pendant by Yellow Owl Workshop

Vixen print by Minkee

Glitter Deer Portrait by Magical Pony Farm

Eastern Arch by Spin Thread

Sofa and Log Collage Painting by mosie26

OMG I’m loving this collection!

Hot Etsy Finds: Vintage Kitchen

My husband is quite the cook. Just this past weekend he made roasted green chile cabrito (goat) burgers, green chile rice and homemade peach cobbler, and last week made refrigerator pickles. I’m a lucky lady, let me tell you!

I’m always on the lookout for kitschy vintage or mid-century era kitchen goodies to decorate HIS favorite workspace, which just happens to be the kitchen. His birthday is coming up pretty soon, and I doubt I’ll be able to resist some of these tasty finds! Check it:

My Etsy goings-on

Just a quick note to update all TWO of my readers about what’s going on in my Etsy storefront. I haven’t had much time to create lately, but have started a couple of experimental projects. I also recently finished a very handsome reinforced tote bag made out of vintage fabrics that will be going up shortly… I can’t wait to share it!

Also, I just curated a gorgeous “Splash of Summer Color” Etsy treasury… browse away! A few crafty friend’s products are featured, as well as some new finds. I feel like summer might be trying to slip away and I want to hold onto it just a bit longer! (more…)

Not your grandma’s doilies!

doily image source : Craft

Or maybe they are… check out this FAB idea for a simple, economical, elegant yet homespun dining room decor idea. I’m totally into granny chic, and would make this table runner in a heart beat.

IDEA! : What if you sewed a bunch together in a free-form style and hung it on the wall? Kind of like an heirloom quilt or piece of art?! *hearts*

I recently created my own doily project for Offbeat Bride. They look great as event buntings, nursery decor or above a bed! And, whaddya know… it’s up in my Etsy shop. I never thought I’d say this… but I think I love doilies.

New in shop and Offbeat Bride tutorials

I’ve been working like a dog… okay not really. But I have been making lots of stuff! Here are just some new items, from my crafty hands and into my Etsy shop! I did a three part series on Offbeat Bride on “How to create a festive wedding banner”, and this amazing floral bunting was part three of that three part series. Hot Etsy Finds: Vintage Embroidery and Needlework

A current obsession of mine has been vintage embroidery, cross-stitch and needlepoint. They’re everywhere! I happen to love the handmade quirkiness of them, and when I spy them while thrifting or shopping I snag ’em up right away. Etsy is a great place to find affordable, unique wall hangings and I’ve gathered a few favorites.

Busy as a bee!

IMG_1791I’ve been busy guys. I’ve been making burp rags left and right, practicing needlefelting (I took a class on it by the ever-crafty pink-haired Moxie), practicing some embroidery, doing DIY tutorials for OffbeatBride.com, doing some intense training with our unruly pit bull, writing music reviews… and in the meantime trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.

Recently thrifted and crafting!

I just love rummage sales. Fortunately, we live in a part of town that has a real sense of community, and with that comes many rummage sales and charity yard sales. This past weekend the hubs and I attended the Lakewood Seward Park Community Rummage Sale and came away with a few goodies for sure! I picked up about six wooden embroidery hoops for $.50! Hopefully, I’ll be using my new skills in needle-felting to make a mobile with the hoops.

We also nabbed a beetle box, which is so super weird and cool at the same time, and a lovely almost-all-the-way embroidered pillowcase. I think I’ll make an apron front out of it.. or maybe a summer tank top? The fate of this piece has yet to be decided. I think my love of cheap goods, and the thrill of the thrift, is rubbing off on the Mr. Man. He is eager to rummage! (more…)

Shop / Life Update

hubs and I at Kerry Park

A couple of weekends ago mi madre came to visit, all the way from Texas! Luckily the weather in Seattle wasn’t grim and gray as per the usual March days… it was beeautiful. We went to Kerry Park, which boasts the best skyline/view in Seattle, did some estate sale thrifting, took a daytrip to Poulsbo and got her a lil wine crunk at a wine bar in our neighborhood! It was a blast.

Thriftin'

I used to thrift shop a lot. Back in college, where there were more thrift stores in my town than department stores, it was easy, cost-effective and stylish to dress in thrift store goods. These days I’m less into vintage t-shirts and more into the amazing kitsch you can find in those dusty palaces of discarded goods (one man’s trash!).

With the re-opening of my Etsy shop, my eye has been keen for cutesy little pieces in good condition that I can list for resale. It’s hard not to keep them all! Especially this adorable pomegranate wall hanging. And I hate to break it to ya, but I’m keeping this sweet vintage plate AND this pheasant wall art. They’re just too good to let go of.

Lo & Behold on Etsy

Good news guys… I have officially re-opened my Etsy shop! I began the shop as an experiment, testing the waters of Etsy and trying to find my scope and direction. As I’ve been sewing and crafting more and more my focus has changed from custom vinyl graphics to vintage and thrifty finds and handmade home goods.

DIY Needlework Kits

One of my new favorite crafty-like things I like to do to occupy my idle time (as if I had any!) is needlework, specifically embroidery. I’m still very much a beginner. My needlework is sketchy to say the least, but it’s oh so rewarding. Nothing makes me happier (well, maybe a few things do) than toiling away at a piece of embroidery and then finishing it! Voila! It becomes an awesome, handmade piece of artistry that I spent hours on! It’s very satisfying.

Hot Etsy Finds: earrings

For years (and much to my mother’s chagrin) I’ve had gauged holes in my lobes only. I never was one for multiple holes, preferring instead to stun with huge holes in my sweet little lobes alone. In an effort to girl-ify myself, and so I could have regular holes to wear special new wedding jewelry, I got a second hole pierced in each ear last year about a month before our wedding.
