I have some new items up in ye olde Etsy shop! I’ve really loved playing with the laser cut acrylic and hope to learn more as I experiment. In the meantime, aren’t these fun (and super affordable)?

(more…)I’ve wanted to do a bit of custom keepsake embroidery for a while now. My best friend had a baby a little over a month ago, so I really wanted to create something for them that was special, handmade and super cute! I think this speaks for itself… I can’t wait to do more!
I designed it in Illustrator, printed it on paper, traced it with a Sulky pen (which, by the way, I am NOT a drawer or artist so tracing the image accurately proved to be quite difficult) and then iron-transfered it to the fabric. Then I just had to embroider it and NOT mess it up! There is a tiny mistake, but I think it’s minimal. And in the grand scheme of things, it’s part of the handmade charm in my opinion.
This weekend I’ll be attending the Bumbershoot Music Festival and covering it for Another Rainy Saturday. Fun times in the sunshine! I’ll post links to my coverage when it all goes live.
I’m always stalking Etsy for fresh finds, and I’m ALWAYS finding about twenty or thirty things I can’t live without. There is just so much great handmade and vintage on that durn site! Anywhooo… here are some things I’m currently hearting: (more…)
Whew! I have a lot going on ladies and gents. For starters, I joined a Swap-Bot.com swap and will be sending off my bunting garland to the lucky recipient on Monday. I’e really enjoyed my swaps in the past… a mixtape, a vintage thrift store find, a self-portrait swap. I nabbed this bunting garland swap because I just LURV making them. My tutorials have been featured on OffbeatBride.com and I even have a couple in my Etsy shop for sale. (more…)
A current obsession of mine has been vintage embroidery, cross-stitch and needlepoint. They’re everywhere! I happen to love the handmade quirkiness of them, and when I spy them while thrifting or shopping I snag ’em up right away. Etsy is a great place to find affordable, unique wall hangings and I’ve gathered a few favorites.

I’ve been busy guys. I’ve been making burp rags left and right, practicing needlefelting (I took a class on it by the ever-crafty pink-haired Moxie), practicing some embroidery, doing DIY tutorials for OffbeatBride.com, doing some intense training with our unruly pit bull, writing music reviews… and in the meantime trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.

One of my new favorite crafty-like things I like to do to occupy my idle time (as if I had any!) is needlework, specifically embroidery. I’m still very much a beginner. My needlework is sketchy to say the least, but it’s oh so rewarding. Nothing makes me happier (well, maybe a few things do) than toiling away at a piece of embroidery and then finishing it! Voila! It becomes an awesome, handmade piece of artistry that I spent hours on! It’s very satisfying.

When the fall weather kicks up in Seattle, there is a little switch that clicks inside of me: CRAFT TIME. I don’t know what it is about the rainy NW weather that makes my hands antsy to craft. Maybe it’s the homebound-ness of it all, the cozy warm house with the cozy warm pets.
This past weekend I decided to practice a little more embroidery. With the help of Sublime Stitching’s awesome Tattoo Your Towels embroidery kit I stitched up a pretty darn cute design on an old green pillowcase I had. Silly me, I ALSO accidentally imprinted the “Test Me” piece of the kit on the pillowcase and it will not wash out! Oh well, it was just for our use anyway.
Again, last night I found myself needing to hold something in my hands and do something productive. There were no half-done projects to finish, and being exhausted from the work day, a new project sounded daunting.
